38. The Caretakers – Utah

Tourism is a major draw for the state of Utah, primarily because of their abundance of national parks. Behind Alaska and California, Utah has the third most national parks in the country with a total of five. The state also houses a number of state monuments. To keep these locations safe, the state relies on a group to keep the parks clean and safe. The Caretakers in Star Wars would gladly be a fit for the job.

The Caretakers are a group of female Lanai introduced in The Last Jedi. They live on the planet Ahch-To, home of the first Jedi Temple. As Caretakers, it’s their religious duty to maintain the ancient structures on the temple island. The Caretakers also provide guidance to any travelers of the sacred island, much like the job of a guide at a national park. The Caretakers are known for their white robes and matching headdresses, much like what a nun might wear.

For a long time, the Caretakers shared the island with only Luke. They didn’t seem to mind him much as he kept to himself and didn’t harm the ancient structures. The same couldn’t be said for Rey after she arrives in Ahch-To. As Rey tries to train on the island, she had a habit of destroying parts of the structure and land, much to the dismay of the Caretakers. Although not intentional, the destruction leads to more work for the Caretakers.
