Matching 50 Star Wars characters with each of the 50 states

40. Finn – New Hampshire
The official motto for the state of New Hampshire is “Live Free or Die.” It’s pretty straightforward and blunt compared to other state mottos. The message is meant to spread the notion of independence and freedom rooted in the American philosophy among politics. One Star Wars character that seems to live by that motto is Finn.
Finn was raised to believe in the First Order. From a young age, he trained to eventually become a First Order stormtrooper. When the time came for combat, he couldn’t find himself pulling the trigger. It wasn’t until he lands on Jakku and finds himself tangled up with Rey and the Resistance that his path in life changes. Finn finally finds freedom away from the First Order and decides to fight alongside the Resistance in helping destroy Starkiller Base.
In The Last Jedi, Finn is conflicted about continuing his fight with the Resistance or if he wants to fully flee the fight altogether. Finn ends up on a mission with Rose on Canto Bight where he realizes he needs the Resistance just as much as the Resistance needs him. Freedom to Finn means taking down the First Order for the entire galaxy and he is committed to the effort even if he dies trying.
