The new rumor comes via Making Star Wars, who has a reputation of getting good information. In this case, the new power is being dubbed ” Force Flash Fighting” — until there is a better name. According to the site, the movie begins with Rey and Kylo Ren far more powerful than the last time we saw them. They had been linked by Snoke, but it seems they are to do that on their own in Episode IX.
So what exactly is “Force Flash Fighting?” It appears the two are physically in the same location, but the background around them changes to different places seen throughout the Skywalker Saga.
Perhaps, not only places change, but time as well.
Could this be where Emperor Palpatine comes into play? Not sure, but it certainly is a possibility. Early rumors had Rey seeing Darth Vader and Luke fight in Cloud City. While only rumors, with the “Force Flash Fighting” is makes it more plausible that could happen in the film.
At Star Wars Celebration director J.J. Abrams hinted at a new Force power in the film. According to GeekyRant, Abrams said this at the panel:
"“There are some extraordinary things that the character, and Daisy did, but I will say some of the stuff that was possible was [thanks to] the stunt coordinator…who was just amazing. Anyways, yes, there are some other things, and you’ll see them soon.”"
