Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga finale is not the end for some characters

Is Star Wars: Episode IX the last time we see Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren? It sure doesn’t seem that way based on Kathleen Kennedy’s latest comment.

With the Skywalker Saga ending, you may wonder what will happen to some of your new favorite characters. Is this the last of Rey, Kylo Ren, Finn and Poe in Star Wars?

It’s possible, but it doesn’t seem like we may have seen the last of these characters even when Episode IX is completed. In a recent interview on the Star Wars Show, Kathleen Kennedy alluded to that.

When asked about the end of the current saga, she made it a point to explain this wasn’t necessarily the end.

Kennedy says: “We don’t look at it entirely as an end but it’s the culmination of the Skywalker story.”

That’s one story — one very long story that took 40 years — completed. But that doesn’t mean the people involved in that story are completely finished with the Star Wars universe.

In Episode IX, we’re looking at the wars to end all wars — don’t believe, listen to John Boyega say it here. While he doesn’t think his character will be seen again in the Star Wars realm, there are so many others whose stories may not be finished. But being that movie seems to have an epic battle scene, there will likely be casualties.

It does make me wonder if Finn is one of them. But some will make it and survive — just like in the original trilogy. And just like Luke, Leia and Han’s stories didn’t end with those movies, Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren may have more to their characters as well.

If I were to choose between all the characters, the ones I can see having more stories in the future are Poe Dameron and Rey. Poe will be the de factor commander of the Resistance once we figure out what’s happened to General Leia. While this battle may be THE war, it’s never truly the end. Evil doesn’t go away just because you got rid of the biggest and baddest characters.

And someone will need to lead the other side against it.

Rey also has become such a solid role model for kids. While there is a story to tell, I find it really tough to see her dying in this movie. If she does live, Lucasfilm can tell other stories about her that don’t necessarily have her fighting the dark side, but crisscrossing the galaxy helping those in need.

There is still a lot that can be done with these characters. We’ll see if Lucasfilm is up to it.
