The next Star Wars movie will be done by the Game of Thrones showrunners, the Disney CEO confirmed, even among the growing criticism for the pair.
It’s upfronts week and there is always news coming out from the different television networks. In this case, ABC, which is owned by Disney, offered a bit of Star Wars news.
The next Star Wars film — after Episode IX — will be from the Game of Thrones showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed today (via Gizmodo).

What else did Iger say? Well, not much. Seriously.
Via Gizmodo, Iger reportedly said:
"“We did a deal with David Benioff and D.B Weiss, who are famous for Game of Thrones, and the next movie that we release will be theirs,” Iger said. “And we’re not saying anything more about that.”"
Disney announced last week that after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, there would be a three-year break until the next movie. It would arrive in 2022 with new movies then coming every other year.
It’s not confirmed those three movies are a trilogy — though it would make sense — but it is confirmed that at least the very first of those three films are coming from Benioff and Weiss.
And that news is not exactly coming with cheers.
Game of Thrones is in its final season, which has gotten extremely mixed reviews. Some fans have enjoyed it but many others have been disappointed by the story arc of many of the characters, especially the female characters.
This has led to a number of people already questioning whether they are the right people to helm the next group of movies.
And as of right now, we still have no new updates on Rian Johnson’s previously announced trilogy.
Do you think Benioff and Weiss are the right duo to helm the next franchise movie?
