The latest Star Wars rumor says a Knight of the Old Republic screenplay is in the works. Do we really have to wait until 2022?
Star Wars fans may get their wish if the latest rumor is true.
Buzzfeed is reporting a screenplay for Knights of the Old Republic is in the works and is being written by Laeta Kalogridis, who is credited with writing Shutter Island and Alita. The news site cites three sources.
With the Skywalker Saga coming to an end this year, and an announced Star Wars movie coming in 2022 (and two more every other year), there was speculation about what those movies would be about. Most of that speculation centered around KOTOR.
KOTOR was a video game from the early 2000s that featured compelling storylines and characters that stuck with many Star Wars fans. This could mean characters like Darth Revan, Darth Malak and Bastila Shan could finally make their way onto the big screen.
Without coming up with an entirely new Star Wars story that is not in canon or the extended universe, a story — and potential trilogy — on KOTOR would be the next best thing.
The characters featured during this timeline are so complex and layered. They encompass a time that we haven’t seen on screen before and there is a wealth of stories that could be told from this point of view.
If this is actually the case, we welcome this news. KOTOR is a beloved story for fans and one that most would be on board to see.
The next movie after Episode IX is slated for December 2022 and will be produced by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. There were already rumors there trilogy could take place during the Old Republic. We’ve just been hoping that would be the case.
