Question 8: What will become of the Resistance and the Jedi?

This is a really tough one to answer and it is an important question. While it certainly seems the Jedi are all but done (especially considering the last movie was named The Last Jedi), it’s important to lay out what’s going to happen because even without Jedi or Sith, the Force is still there.

It’s always there.

There will be Force-sensitive people and some who need guidance.

Rey has the Jedi text and the future of the order is in her hands.

When it comes to the Resistance, they spent the past 18 months or so between films building up their numbers again. Depending on how the battle between Kylo and Rey go, there may not be a need for a Resistance.

The sad part is that all of it is cyclical. Even when the Empire was defeated, even if the First Order losses, even when the Resistance is clobbered, there is always a seed that lives on that eventually grows in the fringes until it makes its way into the mainstream.

Conceivably, Star Wars can continue for decades with the same fight over and over, different winners every time. One side that will rise and wreck the other, only to do it all over again.

So while Jedi, Sith, the Resistance and the First Order may no longer exist after The Rise of Skywalker, the likelihood is that they just live under a different name.
