11. Mace Windu vs. Palpatine

Movie: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith

Characters involved: Mace Windu, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, Anakin Skywalker

Mace Windu was a key member of the prequel trilogy as a Master of the Jedi High Council. He reluctantly allowed Obi-Wan to train Anakin after Qui-Gon’s death. Mace also played a role during key battles within Attack of the Clones. His most defining moment came in Revenge of the Sith as he proved Anakin’s loyalty to viewers.

In Revenge of the Sith, Mace became wary of  Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Anakin later revealed that Palpatine Sith Lord Darth Sidious was the one who was actually responsible for the intergalactic tension.

Mace, along with a few other Jedi Masters tried to arrest Palpatine, but the Sith Lord quickly killed his companions. Mace and Palpatine fought one on one in a lightsaber duel.

Mace was able to keep up with the fight, even causing damage to Palpatine’s face. At first, it looked like Mace had a good chance at defeating the Sith Lord. Unfortunately, Anakin arrived and tried to stop Mace from killing Palpatine. Mace would not give in to Anakin’s request.

Anakin destroyed Mace’s lightsaber and allowed Palpatine to kill the Jedi Master. Anakin then fully pledged himself to Sidious. In return, the Sith Lord granted him the name of Darth Vader.
