6. Holdo’s jump to lightspeed
Movie: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi
Characters involved: Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo, Resistance, First Order
Amilyn Holdo made her Star Wars film debut with The Last Jedi. The character, played by Laura Dern, was a close friend of General Leia Organa. She was a member of the Rebellion since the beginning of the war within the galaxy. During the Resistance’s fight against the First Order, Holdo became a Vice Admiral.
In The Last Jedi, Leia was left unconscious and many of the commanders were killed by an attack from the First Order. Vice Admiral Holdo took charge of the surviving members of the Resistance and devised a plan to keep them out of harm’s way. Poe didn’t see eye to eye with Holdo and he decided to go behind her back. That decision proved to be deadly to many of the last Resistance members.
Holdo sent Leia and the rest of Resistance on transport ships while she stayed behind on the command ships. Thanks to Poe’s mistake, many of the First Order fired on some of the transports as they tried to flee. Holdo tried to use herself as a targeted distraction.
When the First Order kept focusing on the transports, she decided to make the ultimate sacrifice. Holdo went into hyperdrive and traveled through Supreme Leader Snoke’s flagship at light speed, destroying it. Her death gave the Resistance enough time to get to Crait safely.
