2. Jyn’s suicide mission

Movie: Rogue One

Characters involved: Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, Rebels

Rogue One told the important story that led up to the events of A New Hope. In the film, we met the criminal-turned-hero, Jyn Erso. Her backstory was tragic, but she evolved into a memorable figure to the Rebel Alliance and their efforts against the Empire.

Jyn’s scientist father, Galen, was forced into working for the Empire by helping create the Death Star. He purposely made a vulnerability in the Death Star which was a secret to the rest of the Empire.

After the death of Galen, Jyn fully joined the Resistance and proposed a mission to steal the Death Star plans on Scarif. The rest of the Alliance don’t agree with the mission so Jyn and Cassian Andor gather their own rogue squad to carry out the plan.

While on Scarif, Jyn and Cassian infiltrate the Imperial facility while the rest of the Rebels fight off the Empire forces outside. Jyn made it to the data vault where she successfully found the plans for the Death Star.

She and Cassian eventually escape the facility and successfully transmit the Death Star plans to the Rebel Alliance which details the fatal flaw that her father put in place. Their action turned into a suicide mission as the Death Star fired on Scarif, destroying the planet and killed him. All was not lost, however, as Jyn’s decision went on to greatly help the Alliance.
