22. The Kessel Run
Movie: Solo: A Star Wars Story
Characters involved: Han Solo, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, Qi’ra, Tobias Beckett
Han Solo was no stranger to using a few humble brags in his adult life. He enjoyed sharing that he was able to do the Kessel run in “less than twelve parsecs.” Considering parsecs are a unit of distance, not time, this was often a confusing statement to viewers. Thankfully, Solo: A Star Wars Story shed more light on the Han’s Kessel run.
After they stole the coaxium from the Kessel space mines, the crew needed to find the fastest route to Savareen. Han piloted the Millennium Falcon along with Chewbacca for the first time. The pair would go on to become co-pilots of the Falcon for decades. The coaxium they stole was unrefined so there was no time to spare if they wanted to survive.
Han decided to take a much shorter route out of Kessel, but it was also much more dangerous. Kessel was surrounded by a whirlpool and a gravity well called the Maw.
Han used his extensive knowledge in flying aircraft to successfully shorten the distance traveled from twenty parsecs to twelve parsecs. The Millennium Falcon suffered some damage, but the group was able to land on Savareen in one piece.
