21. “I am one with the Force.”

Movie: Rogue One

Characters involved: Chirrut Îmwe, Baze Malbus

The character of Chirrut Îmwe was introduced as a member of an order of spiritual warrior monks, known as the Guardians of the Whills. The blind man met Jyn Erso on the planet Jedha while he was preaching about the Force. He quickly proved his enhanced skills while helping free Jyn, Cassian, and K-2SO.

Chirrut relied on his hearing to figure out the location of approaching stormtroopers. He accurately used his staff to take down a numerous amount of troopers before his friend and protector, Baze Malbus, stepped in to assist. Chirrut commonly spoke the word, “I am one with the Force, the Force is with me” over and over again. That line would be repeated during his most heroic move.

Chirrut volunteered as one of the rogue Rebels to help with Jyn’s mission on Scarif. He and Baze led the assault team to lure stormtroopers from the facility.

In order to get the Death Star plans, the master switch needed to be flipped. Chirrut bravely stepped out into the open while chanting his Force prayer while he held off blaster shots. He successfully activated the switch before being severely injured in an explosion. Chirrut was killed, but his brave action helped Jyn and Cassian get the plans transmitted as they intended.
