Attack on Echo Base on Disney Video

19. AT-AT takedown

Movie: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back

Characters involved: Wedge Antilles, Wes Janson, Luke Skywalker, Rebels, Imperial forces

The main characters of the franchise didn’t get all of the most heroic moments. There are a few lesser notable names that deserve the notoriety. One specific moment came in The Empire Strikes Back; one which would go on to become one of the best scenes in the original trilogy, and even the entire Star Wars franchise.

The Battle of Hoth was an assault by the Empire on the Rebel Alliance’s Echo Base. The battle proved to be a victory for the Empire, but the Rebels didn’t go down without a fight. The Empire used AT-AT walkers for a ground assault, but the quick-thinking of the Rebels helped destroy some of the armored transports.

Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles led the Rogue Squadron against the Imperial ground attack. Wedge and his gunner Wes Janson used their T-47’s tow cables to shoot at the walker’s leg and wrapped the cables around the legs, toppling the transport. Luke’s snowspeeder was shot down, but he still managed to take down an AT-AT by using his lightsaber. Their heroic actions slowed down the army, but they pressed on.
