Did Padmé’s parents know of her marriage to Anakin Skywalker?
Looking back at the Star Wars prequels you may wonder who knew about Padmé and Anakin’s secret relationship? Did the Jedi suspect anything? What about Padmé’s parents?
The secret love story that brought the end to the Jedi is well known by Star Wars fans. A forbidden love that had to be kept a secret isn’t a new concept in storytelling but what is fascinating is the fact that literally, no one knew until the climax of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.
We can assume Jedi Masters Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi had some suspicions. At times it seemed very obvious the two were more than just old friends. Aside from them, only R2-D2 and C-3PO knew for certain as they were the sole witnesses at the wedding on Naboo.

Looking back I couldn’t help but wonder if Padmé’s parents knew.
Her parents were not big characters in the prequels. Even Padmé’s sister, Sola was far from a focal point. It’s understandable since this is not their story. With all that in mind, because the parents are practically never seen, it made me wonder how much they knew.
Did they honestly never see their daughter? If Padmé got her wish and she had her “baby back home on Naboo” would her parents honestly never visit? Would they never question who the father was?
Trying to find information about Padmé’s parents proved to be more difficult than intended. Wookieepedia provided a little insight into the Naberrie family, stating:
"“The Naberrie were human natives of the planet Naboo in the Mid Rim area of the galaxy. During the reign of the Galactic Republic, the marriage of Ruwee and Jobal Naberrie produced two children, the sisters Sola, and Padmé Naberrie. In 28 BBY, Sola gave birth to a daughter named Ryoo Naberrie.”"
Padmé’s parents and Sola make a brief, silent appearance during her funeral in Revenge of the Sith.
But then I had a breakthrough. I found a scene from Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones that was cut showing Padmé introducing Anakin to her parents and sister at dinner. Her family appears very warm, inviting and unaware of the danger Padmé was in.
Afterward, while Anakin is conversing with Ruwee in private, Padmé is trying to convince her mother and sister that she and Anakin are friends. Of course, neither woman is convinced. They are, in fact, intrigued by Anakin.
The deleted scene provides an impressive amount of information in such a short amount of time. You can watch it on YouTube by clicking here.
After watching the deleted scene I’m conflicted between whether Padmé’s family knew about her secret wedding and pregnancy or if she had withheld that information for the sake of her forbidden love. Both answers seem plausible.
Until more information is released, there is only speculation. Perhaps there is no way to prove who knew of the secret and powerful love between Senator and Jedi.
