Former Star Wars director Colin Trevorrow created a special First Order ship that appears in Galaxy’s Edge. But will we see it Episode IX?

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is filled with Easter Eggs. New things are being discovered every day in the fledgling theme park.

The latest comes from Collider, who had an interview Colin Trevorrow on the TIE Echelon that appears in Galaxy’s Edge and no where else in Star Wars history. It turns out, the TIE Echelon was a creation of Trevorrow and his team.

If you remember, Trevorrow was originally supposed to direct Episode IX. But he was let go likely due to creative differences but details on his departure from the project are scarce.

But in 2017 while Trevorrow was working on Episode IX, the ideas and creations for Galaxy’s Edge were forming. Trevorrow was approached by Lucasfilm for a new ship design. Here’s what Trevorrow told Collider:

"It was just a natural part of the process. The Imagineering team asked us to develop a new ship for the park while we were designing the film. I took it pretty seriously—it’s not every day you get to be a part of something like that. They let me see what they were working on, so I got to see what Galaxy’s Edge was going to be. I think what they’ve created is incredible. It’s such an immersive experience."

Despite Trevorrow no longer working on Star Wars, he’s incredibly proud of his the creation of the First Order TIE Echelon — and it always live on in Galaxy’s Edge.

However, the question remains will we see this ship anywhere else?

There’s really just one place left to see it and that would in Episode IX due out on December 20. While J.J. Abrams is the new director of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it would be incredible to include this ship in the final movie of The Skywalker Saga.

There’s still so much we don’t know about the First Order and its capabilities. It had Starkiller Base, which was a ramped up version of the Death Star. It also has an incredible fleet, but we haven’t seen much of it.

Through the sequel trilogy, we have a handful of fights involving ships such as the battle at Maz’s Castile and the Battle of Crait. Through all of it, it feels we still haven’t seen the full might of the First Order’s military.

Showing the new TIE Echelon could be a great way to showcase the First Order’s abilities. The way Trevorrow describes it also seems it would be a perfect fit for what Abrams is trying to do with Episode IX.

Here’s how Trevorrow describes the TIE Echelon to Collider:

"It was part of an upgraded First Order fleet. An armed troop transport—the equivalent of a Blackhawk stealth helicopter. We wanted it to evoke memories of earlier ships while still being its own thing. If you look at the elements, it’s kind of a hybrid of designs from VII and VIII, with some familiar elements from OT Tie Fighters like Vader’s Advanced x1. There’s a lot of history in it."

While it doesn’t seem likely the new ship will be in Episode IX, it would certainly be welcomed. Showing the brutal force and upgraded mettle of the First Order since The Last Jedi would put the rebels in an even more precarious situation.
