BB-8 (The Force Awakens)

BB-8 is a delight in both films, but it’s The Force Awakens where he bonds the most with other characters and first proves how resourceful he can be. The strong affinity and connection he already had for Poe, and the ones he develops for Rey and Finn helps solidify the sequel trilogy’s core trio of characters. With each individual he shares an adorable bonding moment.

He’s Rey’s call to action, the one responsible for bringing her into the larger galaxy where she discovers who she is and begins to understand the power inside of her. The moment where Rey refuses to sell the droid for extra portions exemplifies the kind of character Rey is and cements the trust between her and BB-8.

Finn spilling the beans on who he really is, BB-8 having the instincts to trust Finn and give him a fiery thumbs up is hilarious and touching. Poe and BB-8 already shared a close bond, and it’s only made sweeter with BB-8 rolling briskly toward Poe when he sees him for the first time on D’Qar.

In The Last Jedi, BB-8 doesn’t get to spend much time with Poe or Rey. He’s certainly resourceful and provides some good laughs during Finn and Rose’s adventures, but it’s not as special or meaningful as the moments from The Force Awakens.
