Rey (Both)
Rey is the only character for which The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi did an equally great job.
Both movies place her at the forefront and feel as though they know exactly what to do with her character. Her inner conflict and self-doubt is clearly communicated, from fleeing into the woods on Takodana after touching Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, to communicating with Ben Solo after her experience in the cave on Ahch-To.
Whether it’s Finn in The Force Awakens or Luke and Ben Solo in The Last Jedi, she carries an inspiring faith in others, that they can become better and reach their potential, even when they don’t believe it themselves.
She builds strong and authentic bonds with other characters, in the first film with Finn, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and BB-8. In the second film she grows closer with Kylo Ren and Luke.
She pushes Kylo and Luke to become the best versions of themselves, with Luke taking advantage of the push and Kylo ultimately throwing away the golden opportunity presented. Her courage remains unparalleled, whether it’s resisting the much more experienced Kylo in The Force Awakens, or handing herself over and taking on Snoke and his Praetorian Guards in The Last Jedi.
Both movies feature plenty of moments that highlight her skills as a pilot, her Force-sensitivity, and her lightsaber combat.
As the only major character both movies have done complete justice, hopefully the perfect trifecta will be completed with justice done for her character in The Rise of Skywalker as well.
