Supreme Leader Snoke (The Last Jedi)

Fans were first acquainted with Supreme Leader Snoke in The Force Awakens as a mysterious, towering hologram giving commands to Kylo Ren and General Hux.

Other than wanting to find Luke Skywalker, and wipe out the Jedi and the Resistance, not much is revealed about Snoke, which led to massive speculation about his backstory and future leading up to the release of The Last Jedi. Fans may not have gotten the answers they wanted in the next film, but at least it made Snoke a more fleshed out character.

Snoke was clearly disappointed at hearing Rey resisted Kylo Ren’s probing of her mind in The Force Awakens, though he still seemed to place great value on Kylo.

The Last Jedi showcased how little Snoke actually valued Kylo, and how he actually viewed his apprentice with considerable contempt and disappointment, viewing him as nothing more than a means to an end. Another mentor and parental figure disappointed Kylo and making him feel more alienated and alone than ever.

From his gold robe to the style of his throne room, it was fascinating to see Snoke’s taste for opulence. The Force abilities he used on Kylo and Rey confirmed his strength in the Force, though it wasn’t enough to save him from the arrogance and overconfidence that would be his undoing.

The Supreme Leader’s backstory mostly remains a mystery, but at least The Last Jedi provided a much better sense of Snoke’s true nature than The Force Awakens did, especially in terms of Snoke’s relationship with Kylo and what he truly valued.
