Star Wars: The Sith Trooper and all the ways to merchandise it

You didn’t think the Sith Trooper was just for a movie? Nope, there had to be some way to sell new Star Wars gear.

Star Wars is making a huge deal of the Sith Trooper for The Rise of Skywalker.

Lucasfilm just announced a new elite fighting force depicting its name, which they knew would conjure up a lot of feelings. The Sith were supposed to be gone and forgotten with the fall of Palpatine, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Perhaps we should have learned from The Phantom Menace that the Sith are not truly gone.

But will the Sith Trooper be a big deal? It’s a possibility especially given the merchandising Lucasfilm is putting behind the character. Stormtroopers are fun and exciting. They lend for great costumes.

Yet along with the announcement of the new Stormtrooper was also the reveal that no less than 11 companies would have Sith Trooper-related merchandise available at San Diego Comic-Con later this month.

While I’m all for new characters — because new people are fun — and embracing them, marketing ploys are marketing ploys.

In The Last Jedi, the Praetorian Guards had one purpose — to protect Snoke. They did a poor job of it considering the outcome, but it made for a fantastic fighting sequence in the throne room.

And some cool figurines.

We don’t know exactly what the Sith Trooper are for, but they’re likely not inviting anyone over for dinner.

Having all that, here’s what Lucasfilm has in store for its Sith Trooper merchandise that fans can get exclusively at San Diego Comic-Con.
