Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge: Rise of the Resistance opening dates announced

Disney has finally announced the opening dates for Galaxy’s Edge’s main attraction: Rise of the Resistance.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has opened in Disneyland, but one of the biggest attractions hasn’t been completed yet. But there’s good news for fans who have been waiting for the full theme park to open.

The Disney Parks Twitter account announced the official opening dates for Galaxy’s Edge’s  attraction, Rise of the Resistance.

Rise of the Resistance will open  on December 5 for Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida and January 17 for Disneyland in Anaheim, California. These dates, and the phrasing with which they were announced, has produced quite a bit of speculation regarding the circumstances surrounding the delayed opening of this supposedly ground-breaking attraction.

Disney notes in its announcement  Rise of the Resistance will be opening on Walt Disney’s birthday, December 5, in Orlando.

"“What better way to honor the ultimate storyteller than by introducing the most immersive and advanced attraction ever imagined in a Disney Park.”"

Clearly, Disney is putting an awful lot on the line with this attraction and it’s supposed revolutionary nature. By linking the opening of the attraction to Walt Disney himself, Disney is really going all in on its bet that this ride will blow away guests to their U.S. theme parks.

This may be an attempt to assuage the concerns that have been popping up lately that Galaxy’s Edge has been a flop. Countless reports and rumors have been hinting that Galaxy’s Edge has been underperforming, and so it would make sense for Disney to up the stakes and really try to sell this attraction as the thing that completes Galaxy’s Edge.

Another point of interest is that despite Galaxy’s Edge having opened earlier in Anaheim, Rise of the Resistance will open first in Orlando. This has left many speculating as to what the true cause for the delay in opening Rise of the Resistance may have been from the beginning.

Will you be visiting Galaxy’s Edge for the opening of Rise of the Resistance? Do you think this can bring in the attendance Disney originally anticipated?
