Star Wars: Will General Hux join the Resistance in Episode IX?

A reddit user posted a theory using a combination of recent and older leaks that General Hux will side with the Resistance in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

When we were first introduced to General Hux in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he was the commander of the First Order and appeared to be in competition with Kylo Ren to be Supreme Leader Snoke’s right hand man.

However, by the end of The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren assumed the role of Supreme Leader of the First Order after (probably) killing Snoke, meaning that Hux is now under his command.

Kylo Ren is no fan of Hux, as the two have butted heads in the past. Most notably, on Crait during the assault on the Rebel’s hideout, Ren even “force pushed” him into a wall when he contested the decision for Ren to go face Luke Skywalker.

Needless to say, considering their animus toward each other, Hux’s role with the First Order in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is up in the air.

To this point, aside from the trailer shown at Star Wars Celebration, very little else has been released regarding what to expect in upcoming movie, but thankfully, the Star Wars community does still have a few leaks to go off of.

Through a combination of both old and new leaks, Reddit user u/kissyoursister has come up with a theory regarding what Hux’s role will be in Star Wars Episode IX.

POTENTIAL SPOILER WARNING AHEAD*******

So this is just a theory based off of a collection of various leaks regarding Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker so take all of this with a grain of salt.

There have been a lot of rumors about a Sith Fleet appearing in the movie who are loyal to Emperor Palpatine, which part of this theory is based on, and the theory regarding Hux is that he will assist the Resistance to defeat them.

In the reddit post, it states “That old information about Hux being carried in with a bag over his head will be where he informs the Resistance of the Sith Fleet, and reluctantly needs to work with them to stop them”.

Hux could have a few motives for doing this.

One potential motive is that he was ousted by Kylo Ren from the First Order and is defecting in order to take him down. Another theory could be that the Sith Fleet is trying to take down the First Order and replace them as the dominate force in the Galaxy, so Hux must team with the Resistance to defeat them.

The reddit post goes on to give their own theory that Hux could join the Resistance and plans to double cross them, stating “Hux isn’t a good guy. He won’t just surrender himself, have the Sith Fleet and then voluntary serve time in prison. I predict that he’ll try to double-cross them and take command back, and immediately try to destroy the Resistance.”

Personally, if legit, this theory about Hux’s role in Star Wars: Episode IX seems like an interesting direction to go in and could help create some intrigue in the character, especially after he was under utilized in the previous film.

I also like the potential idea in some dissension in the First Order’s ranks, and that one of the higher-ups in it could side with “the enemy” in order to take down Kylo and potentially Palpatine adds a new dynamic we have yet to see in the sequel trilogy.
