Rey has a new look in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. What could it all mean? We have thoughts and lots and lots of questions.
At D23, Disney is going through the movies coming from the company, which obviously includes Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
While we didn’t get a new trailer, there was good news and bad news. The good news: We got an utterly intriguiging look for Rey in Episode IX.

The bad news? There’s no photo or footage that has popped up yet.
Potential spoilers ahead. So, if you want to remain spoiler free, head back now.
While we haven’t seen “photo” evidence, pretty much every media member attending the D23 panel had the same reaction in seeing Rey in a different look.
So far, we have only seen her in the white robes and outfit with a blue lightsaber, explicitly showing off her connection to the light side. But in this new clip, Rey looks as Sith as ever.
A hooded Rey is holding a double-sided red lightsaber. Just like Darth Maul’s.
There’s no context behind the clip and doesn’t seem as though the media members who gave us this news know what it means either, but it’s a visual we have to work with.
It could still show off her struggle. Perhaps it’s a dream or a potential future event. In The Last Jedi, she easily connected with the Dark Side not knowing how to shut herself from that side of the Force.
And while she has good intentions, she still has an incredible bond with Kylo Ren, who does wield a red lightsaber. Maybe Rey is thinking about what her life would have been like if she chose to go with Kylo when he extended his hand to her in Snoke’s throne room.
Or maybe shes fighting to keep the Dark Side out and this is part of the path she needs to take.
Or she’s in disguise and this is how she gets in to some secret lair.
There are a lot more questions than answers. In fact, there are no answers. Also, no pictures. We need pictures.
What do you think this clip could possibly mean?
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres on December 20.
