Will Anakin return for the final installment of the Skyalker Saga? There are plenty of fan theories pointing to his return in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
There are dozens of theories pointing to different characters being the Skywalker that will rise, but one of the most recent fan theories is that Anakin will somehow still have a part to play in Star Wars:The Rise of Skywalker and could be the Skywalker that’s referred to in the title of the final film.
Various sources have debated this for a while now, and the fan theory seems to be gaining more traction after images of both Hayden Christensen and Ian McDiarmid surfaced online this year. The two actors were seen doing the rounds at various comic cons and visiting fans.

One such appearance was cancelled by Disney right before Hayden Christensen was due to go on stage. Some fans are saying that this could be to avoid spoilers being released prematurely regarding the possibility that Anakin Skywalker could return in the final film in the Skywalker Saga.
I’m yet to be convinced that’s the reason they cancelled Hayden’s appearance (there’s no hard proof either way), but I can certainly get behind the idea of Anakin still having a part to play in the final prequel trilogy film.
The most apparent reason for Anakin’s return is Kylo Ren. While Kylo Ren has been planning to finish what his grandfather started since The Force Awakens, the fact that Anakin had actually turned to the light before anything worse could happen may still have some impact on his wayward grandson.
If there needs to be a reason for Kylo Ren to be redeemed, something tells me he’s not going to jump at the chance to do it and may require more than just a little help to get there. With the influence, Darth Vader still has on Kylo Ren, who better than Anakin to help turn the tide of the war between the First Order and the Resistance by turning Kylo Ren back to the light? It sounds so poetic, it would almost be a crime for this not to happen.
It would be more than poignantly fitting for one of the most (if not the most) essential characters in the franchise to have a final part to play at the end of the Skywalker saga. After all, Anakin Skywalker was The Chosen One.
Unless of course, you don’t believe that Anakin Skywalker was The Chosen One (some theories point to that being Luke Skywalker) which of course would make the idea of Anakin Skywalker showing up in the final film somewhat redundant. Fans have expressed their desire to see Hayden Christensen don the Jedi robes once more, and I’m one of those fans.
Other theories point to Rey being the Skywalker that will rise even though she isn’t one (as far as we know). Of course, there’s Kylo Ren who actually is a Skywalker rising from the darkness to bathe in the light once more, giving way to the redemption of Kylo Ren returning as Ben Solo. And last but not least is the theory that the name “Skywalker” doesn’t even refer to the family of Skywalkers or even their lineage but to the new generation of Jedi that will rise after The First Order finally falls.
