Star Wars released a new movie still from The Rise of Skywalker giving us a look at a new character.

Star Wars released a new image still from The Rise of Skywalker this week. In it, we meet a new creature that may have something to do with the larger story.

And we have ideas.

More from Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker

His name is Babu Frik (and you can see his pic here). Babu is a droidsmith and, according to StarWars.com, can reprogram or modify any droid. Security systems are no match for him.

Babu Frik already has toys that will feature his likeness that come out on Triple Force Friday. Fans spotted them and wondered who this cute little guy was. So why is this new character such a big deal?

First, we haven’t gotten much from Episode IX other than a few teasers and the movie is coming out in less then three months. So this was a way to satiate eager fans who are waiting on anything to do with the new movie.

Second, let’s think back to the teasers we have gotten. There is a droid who certainly looks as though he has some reprogramming or modifications done.

C-3PO has been shown as having red eyes. There are potential leaks of what that could mean, but we don’t have anything concrete. Yet, something has to happen to C-3PO that would allow the droid to have these red eyes.

That’s likely where Babu Frik comes in.

We aren’t going to get into the details on the rumors of why C-3PO does potentially have red eyes. You can read that in the link above if you’re looking to get spoiled. But Babu Frik’s appearance would certainly fall in line with it.

In addition, Star Wars announced a contest with the release of the movie still where you can win a trip to the world premiere. Want to enter? See how you can win here.
