While the official release date is December 20, there are many theaters showing the movie on December 19 and plenty of tickets have been sold. How many? More than Avengers: Endgame at this point.
Atom Tickets, a movie ticketing outlet, reported a new sales record for the first hour, according to Deadline. The Rise of Skywalker beat Endgame by 45%.
Avengers: Endgame went on to become the highest grossing film (not adjusted for inflation) with $2.797 billion in sales worldwide.
Does Star Wars beat that? It’s certainly possible and only time will tell, but it’s off to an impressive start. The Rise of Skywalker primetime trailer did a lot to showcase the movie, putting it in front of a mega audience.
There is still certainly time to get your tickets for the opening weekend if you haven’t yet although it may seem as though it may sell out soon. But movie theaters are showing The Rise of Skywalker in multiple theaters at a number of times. There should be room for everyone.
While there has been criticism from The Last Jedi (which brought in $1.332 billion worldwide), it seems it hasn’t turned fans away enough from going to see Episode IX.
