8. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jango Fett

One of the more spur-of-the-moment rivalries in Star Wars is the battle between Obi-Wan and Jango Fett. During Episode II, Obi-Wan and Anakin chase down a shape-shifter who was hired by a bounty hunter to kill Padme. Before Anakin and Obi-Wan can get a name out of the princess’ assailant, a mysterious bounty hunter kills the shape-shifter to save his own identity.

Obi-Wan is assigned by the Jedi Order to investigate the bounty hunter and track him down. Obi-Wan’s mission takes him to Kamino, a planet covered in ocean, where he finds a facility harboring and manufacturing thousands of human clones for the Republic. The human being cloned repeatedly is named Jango Fett and, during his brief conversation with Obi-Wan, the Jedi learns Jango is the bounty hunter he’s been searching for.

Jango and Obi-Wan battle on the landing platform of the cloning facility, while Jango’s son Boba waits anxiously in Jango’s ship, taking shots at Obi-Wan from the cockpit. Amidst the rain storm, and the fact that Obi-Wan brought a saber to a gun fight, the scene makes for a gripping battle, with Jango managing to hold his own against a Jedi.

Jango manages to get away, but not before Obi-Wan puts a tracking device on the ship. In the final battle of the movie, Mace Windu is the one to kill Jango and Boba’s hatred for Jedi leads him to join Vader’s army in later installments.
