Ewan McGregor appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and revealed that he did not enjoy keeping the launch of the Star Wars Kenobi series a secret.
“Hello there.”
Through all the excitement of Ewan McGregor returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi, it appears that the one thing that bothered him about the process was keeping it a secret.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, it was brought up to McGregor how he was not allowed to talk about the Kenobi show for quite some time while things were still in the works.
McGregor expressed some of his feelings, saying:
"“It got difficult. I was brought up to tell the truth, and I was in a situation where I wasn’t really allowed to. Because the studios and the big franchises, rightly so, they want to keep everything very secret and as closed as it can be.”"
McGregor continued, by saying:
"“But at the same time, there’s this overwhelming amount of speculation online and on social media and what have you. And wherever I went for the last fifteen years, people would ask me, ‘so would you do it again?’ Once they started doing spinoffs, of course everyone was like ‘are you going to do an Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff?’ And I was talking to Lucasfilm and Dinsey about that, but of course I couldn’t say that I was.”"
So, clearly it was tough for McGregor to keep this a secret. Understandably so, as it’s such exciting news that he really couldn’t reveal until all the behind the scenes aspects were complete. He did a fantastic job of keeping it a secret.
Of course, there was always speculation that he’d return, perhaps staring as Obi-Wan in a standalone film. But, credit to him for not revealing the news too soon.
These are exciting times for Star Wars fans. With Disney+ set to launch on November 12, fans will get to see several Star Wars shows on the streaming service such as The Mandalorian, some new seasons of The Clone Wars, and of course, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
The fact that Ewan McGregor is back in the thick of things with Star Wars again as Obi-Wan Kenobi is awesome. And you could see the excitement in his eyes during his interview with Jimmy Kimmel.
When the Kenobi series will be available on Disney+ remains to be seen.
