Star Wars: Next movie announcement coming in January
With the focus on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the plans post Skywalker Saga seem to be arriving in January.
Lucasfilm is staying quiet about what’s to come after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. There’s good reason for it as LFL want all the eyes on the finale of the Skywalker Saga.
The announcement for what the next movie will be (that’s not coming for another three years) will apparently arrive in December, according to a report in The Hollywood Reporter.

Beyond that note, there is a lot to unpack in that article. We’ll get to it at another time.
For now, let’s take a look at what possibilities exist for the next film.
While Rian Johnson is planning on a potential trilogy for Star Wars, the report says that’s not going to be the next movie. We take him out of the equation and we are left with Kevin Feige, the Marvel Studios head who is reportedly working on his own Star Wars movie.
That is all we know.
There are, of course, so many possibilities. Right now, there are dozens of directors who can jump into a chair and tell a compelling story.
What I would love to see is Kathleen Kennedy make a giant splash with the announcement too. Hire someone who “experts” weren’t expecting. Bring someone on board who can tell a compelling story from a different point of view.
There are going to be fans who will fight, hollar and scream about the choice, but that will happen no matter what.
While most of my Star Wars attention is on The Mandalorian and The Rise of Skywalker right now, I’m intrigued to see what comes forward from this. Kathleen Kennedy has had a number of scathing articles written about her lately including the above mentioned The Hollywood Reporter piece.
If she is going out — as all the experts and unnamed sources says she is — she should do it in a big way and make the biggest waves. She has nothing to lose at this point.
What director would you like to see helm the next movie?
