C-3PO

C-3PO is another character who has been with us since the start of the movies all those years ago.

He could be funny. He can be annoying. He is also endearing and loyal. It may be part of his programming, but it always seemed C-3PO had a little autonomy in there that he didn’t like to showcase.

C-3PO will have a big role in The Rise of Skywalker. The final trailer gave us the fist dialogue that was not a voiceover when C-3PO looked at Poe Dameron, Rey, Finn and R2-D2. Poe asks him what he’s doing and Threepio responds that he “is taking one last look at his friends.”

That kind of talk has a finality to it.

Whatever programming is being done to Threepio it seems there is a chance he may not come back from it. Because of that, he wants to take in some of his newer friends just in case there is a chance he won’t remember them again.

Then there was that clip from D23 of C-3PO and his red eyes.

The lovable droid may be sacrificing himself for the good of his friends and the Resistance. It may be the end of an era after all.
