Star Wars: 4 things from The Last Jedi we want in The Rise of Skywalker
By Nik Edlund
Rey’s Parents
We seemingly got the answer to the two-year-long question that was, who are Rey’s Parents? Toward the end of The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren tells Rey her parents were nothing but filthy junk traders who sold her for drinking money. He also said they were dead and in unmarked graves in the Jakku desert. The question is was Kylo telling the truth? Hopefully, The Rise of Skywalker definitively answers this once and for all.
It is possible Kylo Ren was telling part of the truth. Maybe they were drunken junk traders who did sell her, but that doesn’t answer who they were. They could have had ties to some powerful past force user or Rey’s strength in the Force could be a completely random thing. Also maybe the parents Kylo was referring to weren’t actually her birth parents. Maybe they left or were killed and she was adopted at a very young age by some junk traders with an apparent drinking problem.
There is also evidence from a recent TV spot that spins a different origin on Rey. It is from another voiceover from Palpatine who says that it is time for Rey to know her story. So maybe she is the creation of Palpatine once again manipulating the midichlorians like the way he potentially did with Anakin. Then she could’ve been raised by drunks who did, in fact, sell her. A lot of questions about our protagonist of the Sequel Trilogy will be answered in The Rise of Skywalker, and luckily for fans, the wait is almost over.
