Rose pretty much got ignored in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. To the point where they shouldn’t have even bothered having her there.

Spoilers ahead for those of you who haven’t seen Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker yet as we talk about Kelly Marie Tran’s character Rose and how she went from significant character to nothing more than a cameo appearance.

OK. So, it’s no real secret. After Star Wars: The Last Jedi, there was a lot of hate directed towards Kelly Marie Tran, a.k.a Rose Tico. There was so much hate that she was driven to removing herself from a social media altogether.

It was a dark time for the fandom. Having an opinion about what you thought about a movie is fine, if you liked it great, if you didn’t, oh well, you can’t please everyone after all, but to single out an individual and attack them was just way out of order. To use the phrase, ‘a line had been crossed,’ was a massive understatement in this situation, because the line was no longer a line, but rather a mere dot.

Following this time and in the run up to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker it was heavily reported that Kelly Marie Tran would return for the final installment of the Skywalker Saga and she had the full support of those involved in making the movie and her co-stars. Along with others actors in the industry.

What they were basically saying, despite all of the hate, they were not going to listen to it and Rose Tico would be back. A decision that was definitely the right one.

However, after see Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it looks as though everyone forgot about what they previously said. Because Rose is reduced to nothing more than a cameo appearance.

Rose is a main character. She might not have been introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but she is a main character. And there is ample opportunity in The Rise of Skywalker to have here with the other main characters, Rey, Finn, and Poe.

But, for whatever reason, Rose gets benched at the very start of the movie and we barley see her after that. It makes no sense, other than someone decided to cave and listen to those who created so much hate.

I hope this is not the case and someone will explain why Rose ended up being portrayed so little, because if they did cave it is truly sad.
