6. Weequay

From the moment I first saw the original trilogy, I was enticed by the Weequay. Again, it was first because of the visual aspect, these hard-looking, wrinkled fighters. Cool, right? And the Clone Wars expanded on that with Hando Ohnaka—a pirate! Everyone loves pirates.

More than that though, their home planet of Sriluur is controlled by the Hutts in their Outer Rim domain, and that sets itself up for a fantastic story detailing a pirate crew—doesn’t have to be Ohnaka—who take their piratical ways and redirect it towards a noble cause, like freeing themselves from the Hutts.

Where’s my noble Weequay Jack Sparrow? The lovable captain who has delusions of grandeur, who’s a n’er-do-well, but still charming and charismatic? A Weequay would fit this role perfectly, as they’re such a grizzled race in early adaptations, but the Hando Ohnaka crew had that piratical sense that jives with what their history would lend itself to.
