Widespread Closure

The ending of The Rise of Skywalker was an emotional one. We get Rey on Tatooine burying the Skywalker’s lightsabers before taking their last name as her own. While that was a powerful moment a movie that encapsulates all nine films needs to have a widespread ending that covers a larger period of time. There are plenty of questions that remain at the film’s end that really should’ve been wrapped up.

We have no idea what the Resistance plan is from here on out. Are they going to reform the Republic? Or will they disband and let individual planets govern themselves? There is no hint of this at all and we are left wondering. Another question that arises is, will Rey train a new generation of Jedi?

That would make a ton of sense given the way the movie ends, but again we aren’t shown a shot of the future so we will never know.

Not having an ending that skips forward in time seems like a missed opportunity. If this is truly the end, there shouldn’t be any lingering questions. An ending that would’ve jumped ahead even five years in time would’ve been more concrete and given us all the closure we need.
