L3-37

R2-D2 and C-3PO have had a few close calls in all three trilogy installments, but managed to come out unscathed. But the same cannot be said for our favorite, progressive, female-empowering droid L3-37, who literally built herself from scraps.

L3-37 was Lando Calrissian’s one-of-a-kind droid who not only had a charmingly sharp sense of humor and insisted on doing her own repairs, but was an activist for droid rights and actively spoke out against their enslavement and segregation. L3-37, who made her first and only appearance in Solo, was the prefect droid for our time. Unfortunately, we didn’t get much time with her.

During Han, Qi’ra, Beckett and Lando’s mission to obtain raw Coaxium for Crimson Dawn on the planet of Kessel, L3-37 made it her own mission to free as many droids as she could on Kessel. She had immense success, prompting the droids to even rebel against their guards, but then L3-37 was shot in the riot and severely damaged. Though Lando was unable to save her life as a droid, deeply mourning her loss and regretting the whole mission, L3-37 was brought back to life as part of the Millennium Falcon’s data.
