Yoda
Yoda’s death might have been the most obvious and the most called for–after all, the Jedi Master was 900 years old–but his passing was still a tough reality to swallow.
Yoda is also one of the most mysterious characters in all of Star Wars –his species being unknown and his backstory unrevealed by George Lucas. Yoda is a symbol of the Force itself, another mysterious being Jedi rely on for guidance and power. Yoda was a pillar and a foundation for the Jedi, the Council, and the Republic. His legacy spanned not one, not two, but three Star Wars trilogies (since his ghost made an appearance in Episode VIII), but even wise, old, green Yoda had to pass away eventually.
Yoda is the only Star Wars character on our list to simply die of old age. His death is also one of the most peaceful, as he tucks himself into bed right before his life reaches the point of no return. Yoda’s death is heartbreaking mostly in that he was a character that seemed to be invincible to everything else, other than his own body’s limits. While Yoda revealed both that Vader was Luke’s father and that Luke had a sibling right before dying, it was sad Luke would never get to hear the full story of his Father’s life from the master who trained him.
