The Cooked Porg

Alas, another cute, furry Star Wars creature bites the dust. Porgs are sea-dwelling birds that live on the planet of Ahch-To where an older Luke Skywalker chose to live in exile during the latest Star Wars trilogy. With eyes that were meant for pouting and making you love them, Porgs can have annoying squawks like all birds, but their sad and sweet faces do wonders for their quality of life.

From the moment Porgs made their debut in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, audiences fell in love with the creatures and couldn’t imagine bringing any harm to them. However, the Wookiee Chewy doesn’t seem to agree.

While staying on the Island with Rey during her Jedi training, Chewy chooses to roast one of the Porgs over a fire as other Porgs watch in terror. Later, as Chewy tries to eat his roasted Porg, another Porg gazes up at Chewy with a tearful expression and quivering lower lip. It’s the definition of heartbreaking and created quite the emotional moment.

But the Porgs death has a happy follow-up with Chewy choosing not to eat the bird he just killed and even befriending the Porgs who stowaway on the Millennium Falcon.
