Mace Windu

Mace Windu is basically a jerk in a brown robe. He’s arrogant, stand-offish and a bully. The fact he’s a Jedi and hasn’t fallen to the Dark Side with his apparent anger and short temper is a mystery.

Mace Windu may be a powerful Jedi who ranks right up there with Yoda, but he’s a pretty bland character overall. He is just a shaved Samuel Jackson. That’s it. No other physical features stick out about him. They couldn’t have given him a mustache or beard or something?

The way he’s portrayed by Jackson is also unfortunate. He comes off as extremely smug. When young Anakin is brought to the council for testing, Windu seems hell-bent on dismissing him and isn’t impressed with his apparent natural Force abilities. Jackson doesn’t add any layers to Windu, he’s just an arrogant Jedi, who always seems like he is too important to be bothered.

Windu’s dislike for Anakin is apparent in all three films of the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy. In fact, it can be argued that he was very much to blame for Anakin falling to the Dark Side. He pushed Anakin to spy on Sidious, wouldn’t grant him the title of Jedi Master, and then didn’t trust him enough to come with and apprehend the evil dark lord. If I was Anakin I would’ve chopped his arm off too. Despite his flaws, Windu and his purple lightsaber seem to be widely loved by the Star Wars community as a whole, and that is truly unfortunate and undeserved.
