Disney updated its movie schedule calendar recently and the next Star Wars movie is still on the docket despite limited information.

Even though we haven’t heard official news, on what the newest Star Wars films will be about, who is attached, or who is writing it, Disney is still keeping with the 2022 timetable.

The most updated Disney movie release schedule came out earlier this month. It included all the films currently scheduled under the Disney umbrella scheduled through 2027. Granted the movies in 2024 and beyond only include Star Wars and Avatar, switching off for the Winter holiday release.

If you remember, starting in 2022 Disney would have a new Star Wars movie release for Christmas every other year for three new movies. It’s a possible trilogy, but not explicitly confirmed. That first movie was also supposed to be the start of the movies by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. However, the former Game of Thrones showrunners and Disney parted ways last October.

There have been rumors and speculation about what the future movies could about. We also have a publishing series dedicated to The High Republic Era starting this summer.

They may not be related, but there are is still time between then and now.

Though with a little more than two years to go before the next movie is supposed to come out, I would hope Lucasfilm is a little further down the line with at least a concept. Writing, re-writes, finding a cast and crew, filming, and post-production sounds like a lot.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the movie got pushed back or shifted a bit but, so far, Disney seemed committed to having Star Wars movies come out in December in even years starting in 2022.
