Jar Jar Binks is back and he’s never been better. The Gungan does his best to distract Separatists from seeing the truth in the latest episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars in the chronological viewing.

Just when we thought we had all the Jar Jar Binks Star Wars had to offer; he shows up in The Clone Wars animated series. It absolutely makes sense that he does considering the time period.

In the chronological watch of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the first time Jar Jaw shows up is in Season 3, Episode 3 ‘Supply Lines.’ In this episode, Ryloth is under siege by the Separatists and needs help. In order to help them, Bail Organa and Jar Jar head to the neutral Toydaria to see of they could use their planet for a staging ground.

Amazingly, Lott Dod is also there. He is the Trade Federation representative and sent by Count Dooku to stop Organa’s mission. Dod tells the King of Toydaria that if they decide to help, they would be actually be taking sides in the war and lose their neutrality.

Seemingly, this works and King Katuunko says Toydaria cannot be used as a staging ground.

It turns out privately the King feels differently and talks to Organa and Jar Jar in secret telling them they could launch supplies they have to Ryloth. However, they need to do it without Lott Dod finding out.

This is where Jar Jar comes in. The Gungan is great at distractions, whether or not on purpose is different story. Jar Jar uses his impressive balancing act techniques to distract Lott Dod and the other representatives from the ships taking off from Toydaria.

It’s a good use of Jar Jar. It complements his silliness, but also his inherent need to want to help and do the right thing (even if he is being manipulated). Here he does what is needed to get the job done.

While Lott Dod does actually suspect something happened, he has no way to prove it.

This episode also goes a long way in showing that not everyone agrees with staying neutral. There are plenty of societies that are pacifists and don’t want to take part in war. But the actions of the Separatists and their attempts to hold aid from the people of Ryloth, who have nothing to do with war, didn’t sit well with King Katuunko.

The King even tells Organa and Jar Jar afterward he is reconsidering the planet’s neutral stance, especially when it comes to humanitarian aid.

While not my favorite of the early episodes, it definitely sets the stage for the smaller battles between the Separatists and Republic. There may be battles being fought on the ground and in space, but there are also battles being fought in the political back rooms.
