This episode – next in the chronological watch – is very telling when it comes Yoda. However, they’re already things we know about him. It’s more about teaching others what Yoda is all about and how he becomes the face of the Jedi Order.
‘Ambush’ is actually the first episode of the series, but the fifth episode in chronological order. It makes sense chronologically as we are still dealing with the Toydarians and the fall out from their decisions to help the Republic as a staging ground.
Yoda is on a mission to get a treaty done with king of Toydaria, but the king is intercepted by Ventress, Count Dooku’s assassin. Dooku unleashes a droid army on Toydaria and Yoda and three clone troopers must defeat them to protect the king.
Yoda and the clone troopers defeat most of the army. When Yoda and the clones are separated, Yoda attempts to defeat 10 droidekas, but the clones launch their final rocket at a cliffside, causing the rocks to crush the droidekas.
Dooku’s forces are destroyed and instead of taking the loss, he tells Ventress to kill the king.
Yoda shows up and blocks her death blow. Ventress causes a rock slide and escapes.
The king of Toydaria accepts the offer to join the Republic after seeing what Yoda would go through to protect his people.
Considering this is the first episode that aired, there is a lot going on here and it firmly ties it into the Star Wars universe. Count Dooku is exposed as being Yoda’s former apprentice. It also exposes Dooku’s hand as to his own trained assassin just the lengths Dooku would go to achieve his goals.
If that means death, so be it.
It shows how far he has truly for fallen from his days with the Jedi Order.
