Kiera Knightly

The beautiful Kiera Knightly got one of her first acting gigs in Star Wars. Before you knew her as Elizabeth Swann from Pirates of the Caribbean or Juliet from Love Actually, the woman who gets famously serenaded with those cards at the end of the film, Knightly appeared as one of the handmaidens in The Phantom Menace.

Knightly played Sabe, one of the many handmaidens and decoys of Queen Amidala. She was only 12 years old when she took on the role, and with the heavy makeup and weird headdress thing she wears, it is pretty hard to recognize her.

Sabe does have a few brief lines in the film in the moments she is being the Queen’s decoy. She plays the role very seriously and perhaps even a little zombie-like and Knightly herself said she was having to fight the urge to yawn during filming. That makes sense Kiera because many of us were fighting the urge not to yawn as we watched the film.
