Mark Hamill says most iconic line in Star Wars history was hidden from all

We all know the iconic line from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. The line which left us all with our jaws on the floor in disbelief. It has been 40 years since the Star Wars movie was released and in celebration of the milestone fans have been discussing the movie across the world.

Mark Hamill tweeted about the movie and the iconic line today. Revealing to fans how only himself, Irvin Kershner, and George Lucas knew of what Vader would reveal to the young, missing a certain hand, Luke.

During filming. Instead of announcing to Luke that he is his father. Vader said that “You don’t know the truth. Obi-Wan killed your father.” The actual finished line of “I Am Your Father” was later added in with the use of dubbing. Something that would not have been exceedingly difficult with Vader wearing a helmet all the time.

The cast did not find out the truth themselves until they saw the finished film for themselves in theater. Meaning Mark Hamill had to sit on this massive secret and not talk about it for over a year. Something he described as agony, but full props to the Star Wars legend for managing it.

Mark Hamill has dropped this Star Wars nugget before

Hamill has spoken about this before, so some of you may have known this already. Back in 2017 he revealed this fact while appearing on the Graham Norton show. Not everyone would have seen this however and with the 40th anniversary of the movie this year it is only fitting to bring it up again.
