The Skywalker Saga recently finished up with last year’s Rise of Skywalker. Here are the best quotes from each Star Wars film in the sequel trilogy.

The sequel trilogy put a bow on the story of the Skywalkers. It showed us what Luke, Han, and Leia had been up to since Return of the Jedi. For the most part, they had far from a happy ending, as each was dealing with their own personal tragedies. The common link was the heir of the Skywalkers, Ben Solo falling to the Dark Side and ultimately destroying all of their lives in a way.

The films were closer in tone to the original trilogy than the prequels had been. They had fast-moving plots, plenty of light-hearted moments, and went back to practical visual effects and didn’t rely so much on computer-generated animation. Despite the tone and nature of the movies, there was a large contingency that seems to despise these movies, just as much as those who embrace them.

Whether you are a fan of the sequels or not, the films had plenty of classic Star Wars moments. They added to the overall lore of the universe and had some great quotes in them. Here is a list of the best quote from each film in the sequel trilogy.

“Crazy thing is…it’s true all of it, the Force, the Jedi, it’s all true.” – Han Solo

Han Solo was the driving force behind The Force Awakens. He was a huge part of the story and seeing him back on the big screen played once again by Harrison Ford was a huge treat for fans.

We learned the scoundrel had been going through quite a rough patch. He was separated from Leia, lost his son to the dark side, and also had his beloved ship stolen from him. When he finally recaptures his ship, he is met by two stowaways. He begins talking with them and this is when we learn how far Han Solo has come in the years since we last saw him.

When Rey questions him about Luke Skywalker, Han replies with wisdom and a point of view we never would’ve expected from this old pirate. He says in a stern, and serious tone that “Crazy thing is, it’s true… all of it, the Force, the Jedi, it’s all true.”

This endorsement of the Force is a shocking declaration from a guy who once said that he’s never seen anything that makes him believe there is one all-powerful Force controlling everything, and that there’s no energy force that controls his destiny. Han Solo has witnessed first hand, what the Force can do, first with his interactions with Luke and Darth Vader, and then with his own son. He’s lived a long life and has now had the experience that has made him realize the Force is a very real thing.

This is also the moment Han Solo begins to take on a mentor role. He was once a cocky kid who only believed in what he has seen but now realizes the galaxy is much bigger than he ever imagined and is ready to pass on the knowledge to a new set of heroes.

“The greatest teacher failure is.”  – Yoda

One of the saddest things about the original trilogy ending was the death of Yoda. This beloved character lived out his entire 900 plus year life and finally old age caught up with him. Not only were we sad to see this powerful wrinkled green Jedi master become one with the Force, but we were now not going to get anymore wise and insightful quotes from him.

Turns out, that thinking was wrong. Yoda made a surprise appearance in The Last Jedi when he came to visit Luke on Ahch-To as a Force ghost. Apparently, Yoda had a few more sage pieces of advice to give to his former pupil. The one that resonates the most is this gem, “The greatest teacher failure is.” That is a short but powerful line, that is so true.

While it is hard to accept failure. the truth is, it is the best learning tool there is. When we fail and go back and look at what led us to that failure, we can then change our actions to arrive at a different outcome.

Luke failed with Ben, and Yoda came to make sure he doesn’t make the same mistake with Rey. Letting Luke know it is okay to fail, and learn from that mistake, helped him get out of the depression he was in that led him to believe that self-isolation was the best choice for him. Yoda himself was no stranger to failure, having lost his own student Count Dooku to the dark side.

This is a philosophy that anyone can apply to their daily lives. We often fail at work, as parents, as spouses, and learning from those mistakes and becoming a better employee, father or mother, and husband or wife is how we truly grow as people.

Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) in STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER.

“We had each other…that’s how we won.” – Lando Calrissian

One of the biggest injustices in the entire sequel trilogy was Lando Calrissian not appearing until the final episode. As big a role as had in the original trilogy, he really should’ve been in every single film. He was the fourth major protagonist in the original saga, despite not coming in until the middle chapter. Fans were certainly relieved when news broke that Billy Dee Williams would be returning to his role as Lando.

Lando doesn’t have a ton of screen time in The Rise of Skywalker but he does have a couple of great moments. One is toward the end of the film. Leia Organa-Solo dies, sacrificing herself to push Ben back to the light.

Poe Dameron is distraught at losing his mentor and mother figure in his life and is questioning how their ragtag group of freedom fighters can stand up and destroy the mighty First Order. Lando overhears this and bestows some wisdom upon the young leader of the Resistance. After a brief conversation where Poe asks them how they did it, Lando says, “We had each other…that’s how we won.”

This is great advice and it shows how the power of friendship and wanting to do right by your friends, can overcome the greatest of odds. Luke didn’t want to let his friends down and that gave him the courage to confront Darth Vader and the Emperor. Han stood up to the fear of potentially dying when he was being lowered into the carbon freezing chamber, but stayed strong enough to give Leia an iconic retort to her declaration of love. Even Lando himself showed great dedication to his friends and their cause when he led the rebel attack against the Empire even though he wasn’t exactly thrilled to take on that role.

Sometimes being loyal and true to your friends and having their back even against the most unlikely of odds, can be the most powerful thing there is. That is essentially what Lando is telling Poe, as they say goodbye to their longtime friend.

What are some other great quotes from the sequel trilogy?
