Rebels revisited: the best episodes of Star Wars: Rebels
By Joshua Black
Star Wars Rebels Season 3, Episode 14 – Trials of the Darksaber
Perhaps the most emotional Rebels episode, this fantastic Sabine-centric story sees the Mandalorian develop in a fantastic way.
It focuses on Sabine’s heritage and future, her association with Mandalorian history, and her relationship with the crew of the Ghost, leading to a heartbreaking emotional outburst as the episode ends which makes this episode stand out.
The episode also likely has relevance for Season 2 of The Mandalorian, when we’ll be seeing more of the Darksaber…
Star Wars Rebels Season 3, Episode 20 – Twin Suns
Twin Suns is a very different kind of episode as it focuses on the long-awaited final confrontation between Maul and Kenobi. And, boy, does it deliver.
The anger of Maul is fantastically delivered through Sam Witwer’s legendary voice-work and his confrontation with his arch-nemesis, Kenobi, is perfect in its brevity.
It’s an episode that resonated with the larger Skywalker Saga, whilst also impacting the paths of the crew of the Ghost and, for that reason, is one of the best.
Star Wars Rebels Season 4, Episode 13 – A World Between Worlds
This episode is one of the best of Rebels for its unique presentation of ideas of the Force and of balance by the introduction of the wonderful World Between Worlds, a concept which we surely have not seen the last of.
We gain an insight into the Emperor’s greater plans, hear from old familiar voices, and learn a little more about the functioning of the Force in one of the most thought-provoking tales in Rebels.
That’s what Star Wars: Rebels did so well. It made us think. As well as offering us great action, great heroes and villains, and fantastic twists, Rebels is a show that fundamentally makes us question what we knew about Star Wars, and reconsider it in a wonderful new light.
