Star Wars: 8 of the best side characters in the saga

Star Wars side character No. 3 –Wedge Antilles
Wedge Antilles was meant to be a brief side character in Star Wars. We meet him in A New Hope as he questions the Rebel leaders about targeting something so small as the exhaust port in the Death Star. Luke is quick to refute him and saying that he targeted womp rats that weren’t any bigger than that. The two form a friendship and Wedge ends up being one of the few pilots to survive the attack on the Death Star.
We see Wedge again in The Empire Strikes Back. He’s part of the squadron tasked to take down the Imperial Walkers as the Rebels are trying to hold back the Empire so they can flee the planet. He’s got a great line in that scene as he blares out “Whoa, that got ’em!” when they first take one of the big mechanical beasts down.
We weren’t done seeing Wedge just yet. He showed up again in Return of the Jedi and assisted Lando Calrissian to the core of the Second Death Star and was key in its destruction. Wedge would’ve been a forgettable character had we just been introduced to him once. The fact this minor character showed up time and time again throughout the original trilogy, helped create some symmetry to the films as it just wasn’t the main characters who appeared throughout all the movies.
