Star Wars side character No. 6 — Salacious Crumb

Jabba’s palace is full of interesting characters. It’s kind of a flashback to the cantina scene in A New Hope but we are introduced to all kinds of new aliens. There’s the Max Rebo Band complete with a blue elephant looking keyboardist. There’s Twi’leks with their horn adorned heads, and of course, the obnoxious court jester of the palace, Salacious Crumb.

Crumb is a Kowakian Monkey Lizard. He sits on Jabba’s tail and doesn’t do much but laugh hysterically. What he finds most funny is the peril of those who dare defy the mighty Jabba and are dropped to their death through the trap doors into the Rancor’s lair.

Crumb has a bit of spit fieriness to him, as he attacks Threepio when things start going south for Jabba and his minions. He begins chewing and tearing out the protocol droids eye before he’s zapped in the buttocks by Artoo.

While Salacious Crumb’s inclusion in the Jabba Palace scene wasn’t necessary, it was an extremely fun inclusion. The fact this vile gangster kept an annoying little lizard around to make him and others laugh, just added to the complexity of his character.
