During Ben’s death scene

If not having the Force ghosts appear in the final battle with Palpatine is the biggest gripe of The Rise of Skywalker, the second has to be Ben Solo dying. Many were hoping the redeemed Solo and last of the Skywalker line would be given the chance to live a life with his love Rey. Instead, he gives his life to save her and becomes one with the Force.

There are two ways that Anakin could’ve appeared here. The first would be to generate enough Force power to keep Ben alive. He could’ve said something about how he wasn’t able to save the one he loved but Ben did. He could’ve then used the Force and perhaps with the help of Luke and Leia could’ve generated enough life Force to save the heir of the Skywalker clan.

The other way would’ve been to show up and welcome Ben into the nether world of the Force. Once Ben fades away, Rey could’ve looked up to see his Force ghost being joined by Luke, Leia, and Anakin. They could’ve embraced their redeemed son and welcomed him back into the light for all of eternity.

Perhaps in a future extended version of the film or special edition, we will get something like this, without it, the death of Ben Solo will always sting the hearts of Star Wars fans and leave them feeling cold.
