Star Wars DIY: How to make your own Star Wars-themed desktop icon

Now, to show you how to put these icons you’ve made to use. If you have a folder on your computer that you want to attach an image to instead of rather dull-looking default icon now is your chance.

Click on the folder that you want to attach the image to. For this tutorial, I’ve created one called “The Child.” I might also need to note that this was created using Windows 10. So, there may be some differences between your screen and my own.

Assuming you are using Window 10 like I am, go to the top of the screen where it says ‘Properties’ and click on it. After the ‘(Fill in the name of folder) Properties’ menu pops up go the tab at the top right that says ‘Customize’ and click on it.

Next, click on the ‘ Change Icon ‘ tab. Doing this will pull up the computers default icons folder. However, you will also see the option at the top for where it says ‘Browse’. Click on this.

Find the destination of where you saved your icon image earlier and open it. Select your image and press ‘Okay’.

Another window will open that says ‘Change Icon for (Name) Folder’ You will see a tiny image of your icon inside the window. Click ‘Okay’.

Now you will see a tiny representation of your image at the bottom of the ‘ Properties ‘ window right next to the ‘Change Icon’ tab. Next, you will need to press ‘Apply’ at the bottom right of the window.

You might also want to press the ‘ Okay ‘ button at the bottom of this window after pressing ‘ Apply ‘. You should now see your chosen image for your folder. This will also be where you finally see if the image you chose works as an icon.

I suggest that you choose close-up images of characters or something that fills the space, since some images don’t always work out as well when reduced to the “icon” size.

There you go. You now have your very own Star Wars (or whatever you choose) icon. Pass this knowledge on to your friends my dear Padawans.
