With Temuera Morrison’s role in his return to Star Wars still unknown, rumors are circulating that he could be playing Captain Rex in season 2 of The Mandalorian.

A few months back, Temuera Morrison, who originally portrayed Jango Fett and the Republic’s Legion of Clone Troopers in the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, was confirmed to be returning to the franchise in season 2 of The Mandalorian.

Given the time period in Star Wars lore that the series takes place, in addition to the teaser at the end of season 1’s “Chapter 5: The Gunslinger,” many fans believed he would be playing Boba Fett, the genetic clone of Jango, who was last seen falling into the Sarlac Pit on Tatooine.

Seeing as Boba Fett is a fan-favorite character and his character likely inspired the creation of Din Djarin, the Mandalorian bounty hunter whose adventures we follow throughout the show, it seemed fitting that Boba would make an appearance in it.

While Morrison may very well be playing Fett in the show, there are many rumors circulating that he may have an additional role as well, reprising the character of an older Captain Rex from the Prequel Trilogy.

This was speculated when Morrison was originally announced, but it was just speculation. Now, however, multiple reports are stating that this very well may be the case.

It has already been confirmed that Rosario Dawson will be playing a live-action version of Ashoka in season 2, who was a close ally of Rex’s and was still in contact with through the events of Star Wars: Rebels, so it would not be too out of place for him to appear alongside her.

Morrison has already appeared as multiple characters previously, so the idea of him appearing as both Boba Fett and Rex does not seem too far fetched, and if the rumors are to be believed, would make for an interesting dynamic.

Potentially, both Boba and Rex could come face to face, and the idea of two clones of the same man with vastly different backgrounds could make for an interesting story, and given both of their prose in combat, a very entertaining fight.

Now, as stated, these are merely rumors at this point, but the good news is, we will soon know if they are accurate, as the season 2 trailer should be set to be released soon, and the new season is set to premiere on Disney+ starting on Oct. 30.
