5. Episode V: Lobot

Choosing a character who was wasted in The Empire Strikes Back was a very difficult task. This move is basically perfect from start to finish with very few wasted moments let alone characters. However, since the rules of this article are to pick one from every movie in the saga, then we’ll roll with the stoic and silent cyborg known as Lobot.

Lobot is apparently the right-hand mand of Lando Calrissian and possibly his new best friend since he and Han parted ways. Lobot appears to be a cyborg of some sort as he has an implanted metal headband that Lando can communicate to him with a couple clicks of his fancy wristband. We assume Lobot is part human, but we don’t really know as we never hear him talk or have Lando give any explanation to who or what he exactly is.

Lobot is in the film for just a few moments and his pale and billowy wardrobe blend into the bland surroundings of the interior buildings of Cloud City. It would’ve have been nice to see a little more of Lobot so we at least know if he’s part human or not. Maybe he could’ve been taken hostage by the Empire or further helped his buddy Lando escape and end up on the Falcon with the rest of this crew.

He could’ve even potentially become the third-wheel to Threepio and Artoo in Return of the Jedi if he was truly a droid. Instead, we are all left wondering not only what happened to Lobot, but what exactly he was in the first place and why he wore curtains for sleeves.
